Security Guard Training Courses

This course is a general introduction to the field of security. This course is to prepare you for what your duties and responsibilities will be as a security guard. It will also teach you the laws and limitations that govern you as a civilian officer and what arrest powers you have. This course is required to apply for a New York State Guard License.

This course is a more in-depth look at the role of security guard. This course details specific job types and sites and the different responsibilities for each site. This course needs to be taken within 90 days of employment as a security guard. This course is required to re-new a NYS license.  

This is a course to prepare you for the exam to receive a certificate of fitness from the FDNY to be able to work as a fire-guard. This course will teach you general fire safety, evacuation procedures, fire extinguishing procedures, and specific regulation related to different work sites. Fire-Guards are required to work in most corporate buildings, shelters, and hotels/motels, and other building with sprinkler systems.

This course is to teach guards the proper way to use handcuffs and batons in the event they become necessary. This course covers the physical actions and also the laws that govern the use of these items and how they limit and affect the security guard in its use.

This course is to refresh your memory on your role as a guard and to inform you of any changes to laws or incidents that may have an effect on how a guard handles a situation. This course is required by the state to be taken every year in order to maintain a New York State Security License. If this course is taken every year, and you renew your license on time, you will not have to retake the 8HR Pre-Assignment and the 16HR On-The-Job. However, if the license is allowed to expire, you will have to retake all of these course and reapply for the license.

 

4 HR Fire-Guard Preparation Course
8 HR Annual In-Service Training Course

This course is for security officers looking to improve their skills as a guard. This course teaches how to utilize deduction and reasoning skills to be able to better detect a problem before it becomes an incident. This course offers security personnel insight on how to control large crowds, indentify suspicious behavior, to be able to deescalate a situation without incident, and to work in teams.

 

This course is only offered by OnPoint Watchdog Protection and was written  for the security guard who wants to learn how to work in any situation and under any circumstance. This course teaches you to work in teams to protect a VIP, to use critical thinking skills to deduce when someone is in danger or acting suspiciously, basic hand to hand defensive/offensive moves to protect the clients and yourself, and to disarm an assailant. This course also walks you through many scenarios and practice exorcises to train you to be more aware and alert as a guard in more precarious situations.

This is a week long course given at the firing range. This course is to teach how to use your firearm safely and within the laws set forth by the state. This course will show you how to fire, when is it okay to draw your weapon, and how to properly store your weapon and ammunition.
